Bummerarmy.com is my anti-HUMMER/anti-SUV site. Basically. It’s dedicated to those of us who are concerned about such things as global warming, those of us who want a better environment, cleaner air, and who want to get that message out loudly and publicly. It’s a site for creating social awareness and change.
My way of doing this is through art. A month or so ago, I painted the original of the anti HUMMER painting you see above. And somehow it just blew up and I had requests for activist stickers and tshirts and rockbands who want to wear the tshirts on stage to promote the message. At that point I realized that this was an issue that was important to more people than I realized. So why not make a site for it? So that’s what I did.
Why “Army”? That idea I took from an online community I used to be a member of. I didn’t invent it, but it’s a great idea so I’m using it. It goes like this:
- You get BUMMER stickers from the Merch page.
- You stick them in public places to get the message out (making sure you do NOTHING to get yourself into trouble. IE: DO NOT PUT THESE STICKERS ON SUVS, unless you OWN the car yourself. Then vandalize it all you want!)
- And for this you accumulate “Army points”. Based on the level of publicness and the relevance of the location of the sticker to the intended message, you gain points.
- 100 points and you get a free BUMMER tshirt.
- I can’t emphasize this enough: DO NOT PUT THE STICKERS ON SUVS. While it’s important to get the message out, I don’t want you going to prison for it. I will not award army points for stickers put on any SUVs but your own, or if you somehow successfully encourage another SUV owner to deface his own SUV! In that case I’ll require evidence of that.
As the site evolves I will offer other incentives, and I’m always open to suggestions and other bright ideas, but for now, them’s the rules. Just email me photographic evidence of the sticker in its new location and I will award you points. So the message gets out there and you get free stuff. Everybody wins.
And just so you know, you don’t have to post stickers and email evidence to get a tshirt if you don’t want to. You can just purchase tshirts or any other items from the merch page.
Feel free to email me with questions, comments or suggestions for the site. Have fun! Erica
